St. Pete Running and Coffee is Now Open

It’s finally here! This small local business is expanding and the running specialty shop plus café has now opened after years of careful planning. St. Pete Running Company owners Cody and Janna Angell have envisioned this unique concept for over a decade, even before they opened their first location. The new shop is open every day and it’s located next door to Wildflower Ice Cream and Violet Stone pizza shop.

Our Grand Opening was a huge success. But still you might be wondering…
Why did we open up a second shop, and why does that shop include coffee?
There are some things that just go together. Batman and Robin. Peanut butter and jelly. Dorothy and Toto. Beer and pizza. Mario and Luigi. Tacos and Tuesday. In the running world, there are few things that mesh better than a morning run and a fresh cup of coffee. Why not create the next iconic, dynamic duo right here in St. Pete?
Running and Coffee
What could be better than logging the miles in the morning and swinging by your local coffee shop to get a fresh pair of Brooks Hyperion Max 3 nylon-plated running shoes for your upcoming marathon while you wait for an iced vanilla latte with oat milk? Shoes in the bag, drink in hand, and ready to conquer the day. Coffee makes for a great reward after a workout. It’s something to look forward to, and a place where running and coffee intersects is the type of hangout where like-minded and health-conscious people gather and connect. The research continues to show that drinking black coffee daily (sans sugar or cream) is linked to living longer.
There is nothing quite like this new shop, at least that we’re aware of in regard to our distinct pairing: running shoes and an espresso bar.
The Café
The boutique space contains a world-class Slayer espresso machine operated by expert baristas. Café manager Cole Pehote has years of experience throughout the greater St. Pete metro area and brought in a team of baristas at the top of their game. The coffee menu includes what you would expect from an espresso bar: americano, cortado, cappuccino, flat white, and double-shot espresso pours. Specialty lattes include the unbeatable rosemary honey latte and seasonal ones, like strawberry latte and gingerbread latte. Syrups are house-made, and a secret menu is on the way for a select group of loyal patrons. Other specialty drinks include Japanese ceremonial-grade matcha, chai latte, and loose-leaf teas with caffeine-free options. A rotation of pastries from local favorites will include options like coffee cakes, vegan brownies, ham and cheese croissants, and egg, spinach, and artichoke popovers.
Shoes For Walkers and Runners
Across from the espresso bar is a curated collection of our most popular brands carried over from our flagship store in the Tyrone area of St. Pete. The main shop, as we’ll call it, continues to house the majority of our expansive inventory. While this new location off of MLK Jr. Street North is smaller and contains less apparel and accessories than the main store, we’ve curated the space into a boutique shopping experience.

St. Pete Running Company has earned a spot in the Top 50 Running Stores in the U.S. for years. One of the biggest reasons? Exceptional customer service. You can expect the same phenomenal customer service at St. Pete Running and Coffee. We brought over our expert shoe gurus to walk customers through the shoe-buying experience and take away the mystery of the shoe wall. Many of the staff have worked at the main store for years, some for over a decade. We’re proud of our team members who will take excellent care of every customer who walks through the door. They will help you find the best pair of running or walking shoes for you.
What About the Beans?
We are the only coffee shop in the St. Pete area to carry Kos (pronounced koosh) espresso beans, a roaster out of the Orlando area. The espresso beans are single-origin from a single farm in Guatamala. The bold medium roast has a rich, full-body flavor with notes of cherry, apricot, and dark chocolate.
From the roaster:
“The Ceiba lot from Huehuetenango [Guatamala] is a community coffee, investing in sustainable sourcing to benefit a large group of producers. The cup profile boasts a rich floral and berry aroma and is full of chocolate, lemon, and raspberry, with a creamy body thanks to the specific Huehuetenango terroir.”
Customers have raved about the coffee throughout our soft opening phase. The Grand Opening on January 11, 2026, brought a huge crowd. On Running sponsored a 5K and a 10K run and paid for the first 200 people to enjoy a coffee. A line out the door and around the block lasted for hours. Folks raved about the espresso and the five-star reviews are already pouring in.
How St. Pete Running Company Expanded to a Second Location
The community Cody and Janna have fostered through St. Pete Running Company led to a flourishing small business. For years, the customer family has been requesting an expansion of the extremely popular local running store, asking Cody and Janna to open shop number two in different areas all over Tampa Bay and beyond.
Janna discovered the location that is now St. Pete Running and Coffee on the corner of 9th Street North (known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North) and 26th Avenue North. A former hair salon had been in the space. The size of the shop, while smaller than the main store, is exactly what was needed for a more boutique retail experience paired with an espresso bar.

The number one question we’ve been asked a lot is this. What happens to the other shop? Will it stay open?
A: Yes! Our main shop in the Tyrone area located at 6986 22nd Avenue North will continue to operate at normal business hours. Our Monday and Thursday 6:30 PM Group Runs will continue to take place every week. We have expanded to a second shop, which will be in addition to the main store (not replacing it).
