Frequently Asked Questions

Q - Do I have to be fast or experienced to do this?

A - No! Our events and programming are for people of all abilities and paces.

Q - What if I'm not that fast?

A- We group participants into pace groups so you will run with people of your approximate speed. Example: All the people who run 8:30 per mile will be seeded in the Moxie Mile which is for those who run 7:00-9:00 pace. You won't be racing against someone looking to run 4:30.

Q - Is there a race T-shirt?

A - No, we've got something better. The adult finishers get a limited edition bottle of our hot sauce!

Q - Will there be medals?

A - No, but you can take lots of pictures and catalogue your experience on social media. This keeps your cost down and doesn't take up space in your closet.

Q - How do I know what pace I run?

A - We recommend timing yourself for a practice mile and using that. We also have track training on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM at Northside Christian Track. Training on a track can help you understand approximately what pace you'll be able to run during the race.

Q - Can my kids run this?

A - YES! Kids 12 & Under can participate for free! Children are our future and they deserve a healthy and active lifestyle. We have a little kids running class on Sunday, May 27th at 3:00 PM to teach your little ones proper running form. Toddlers/small children can do the 1-Lapper (400 meters or 1/4 Mile) or the kids mile, depending on how much running they have been doing.

Q - Can I bring my dog?

A - No. We aren't allowed dogs on the track.

Q - How does Pace Your Race work?

A- Pace your race is for all participants. Even if you've run a previous mile. Before the event you'll need to predict your estimated mile finishing time. We'll hide all clocks & there's no watches for this event. The finisher who gets the closest to their estimated time will be the winner and get $50.

Q - Where can I sign up?

A - Sign up ONLINE by clicking the link, or come into St. Pete Running Company to sign up in store, or sign up at the track on Wednesday, June 6th, where you can register at 6:15 PM

5 WAYS TO STAY SAFE DURING RUNNING SAFETY MONTH November 7, 2017 11:31

Running Safe

What Safety Measures Do You Take During a Run or Walk?

November is Running Safety month, and here at St. Pete Running Company, we are all about safety first!

We're sharing 5 Ways to Stay Safe on a Walk or Jog in honor of Running Safety Month.

1. RUN WITH A GROUP

There is safety in numbers. If you need a group, look no further! At St. Pete Running Company, we host FREE Group Runs every Monday and Thursday at 6:30 PM. Often we'll have fun Events affiliated with the run, like Taco Night, Shoe Demos, Hot Chocolate Run, and more!

2. KEEP YOUR EARS OPEN

While headphones are great for zoning into a run at the gym, they are not necessarily safe outside. Earbuds deter your hearing and awareness, preventing you from hearing approaching vehicles, cyclists, etc. At St. Pete Running Company, we have the solution for you! Aftershokz Wireless Headphones are bone-conducting, which means they don't go into your ears. You can hear your music AND your ears are open! You'll be able to carry on a conversation with a buddy and listen for any signs of danger.

3. GO WITH LIGHTS AND REFLECTIVE GEAR

This is especially important at night when it will be difficult for others to see you. There are a variety of light accessories that you can clip on or wear during low light and dark conditions. Even if you start your walk or jog during light hours, you might not finish before dark, so it's important to have your reflective gear and lights already on. At St. Pete Running Company, we have many light accessories and reflective options for you to choose from!

4. PLAN YOUR ROUTE & MIX IT UP

Having a plan is always a good idea because you can tell one one or two very trusted friends or family where you are going ahead of time (but NOT on social media). Mixing it up is a safety tip that can help prevent your routine from becoming too predictable. Also let the people you trust know when they should expect your return.

5. DON'T SHARE YOUR ROUTE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

While you might be very excited about your next walk or jog, refrain from broadcasting your upcoming route on social media sites. If you do share past routes, make sure only people you trust (and not the public) can see those routes on your social media sites and apps like Garmin Connect and Strava.
