HOW TO RUN WITH LESS GRAVITY, FOR REAL! March 18, 2017 16:17

Injured?

What If You Could Still RUN?!

The Alter-G Treadmill at Rubin Health Center

What is an Alter-G Treadmill?

St. Pete Running Company recently visited the Rubin Health Center. (Check out the video!) The Alter-G Treadmill is a type of treadmill that lifts the person up while they run/walk. There are arrows that the person can select to reduce/raise the amount of weight applied when using the machine. It enables regular folks like us to use the same training machines that world class athletes use.
Cody Angell using the Alter-G Treadmill
For Example:
A 200-lb person can reduce their weight on here by 25%, and experience what it would feel like to run if they only weighed 150 pounds!
Another example:
That same person could reduce their weight by 50% and run as if they were a 100-lb person.

The experience is unlike any other, unless you were planning on going to the moon.

Injured? Try Alter-G!

Shin splints, plantar fasciitis, joint pain?

If you have an injury, you might consider trying out the Alter-G treadmill. A person suffering an injury may not be able to run under normal circumstances, but with a reduced weight on the Alter-G they may be able to resume running much sooner. This could potentially accelerate recovery.

Visit Dr. Rubin

The Rubin Health Center in St. Pete has the only commercial grade Alter-G treadmill available for use. It's one of a kind in the area. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the same exact one for their athletes to use.
Cost:
This one is available for the public, and rates start at around $1 per minute.

Ride an ElliptiGO and See What the Fuss is All About

For the first time, St. Pete Running Company is renting ElliptiGO cycles. The Arc is the newest ElliptiGO product that is lightweight, providing a nimble, responsive workout that's easy on your joints. The other model we carry is the 8C ElliptiGO cycle which gives the feeling of “running on air” from the long, smooth elliptical stride.

Both models are also for sale. The 8C model is $2499 and the Arc model is $1299. Your purchase will also apply toward Perkville points.

What is an ElliptiGO?

The ElliptiGO is an outdoor elliptical cycle that combines the best of running, cycling, and the elliptical trainer to deliver a low-impact, high performance workout outdoors.

What is the Cost to Rent an ElliptiGO at St. Pete Running Company?

Cost per person: $15 for one hour or $50 for the day. If you don't bring your own helmet, we will provide one for you.

The Pinellas Trail is directly behind our store. The employees at St. Pete Running Company will help you get started with a quick lesson in the back parking lot.

Why Should I Rent an ElliptiGO?

Are you a former runner with joint issues? An athlete who desires low-impact exercise? A person who likes cross-training?

Then you'll love testing out an ElliptiGO! The ElliptiGO is for anyone who wants low-impact, high-intensity exercise outdoors.

Can I Try Out Both Models?

Absolutely! St. Pete Running Company has two ElliptiGO cycles in store, and they are both available to rent. The Arc and the 8C cycles have subtle differences. Two people can rent each model to take a ride together (one person per cycle).

The Arc ElliptiGO Cycle

The Arc’s sleek aluminum frame, eight gears and compact stride give you a nimble, responsive workout that’s easy on your joints. And the natural “stand up” position reduces neck, back and seat pain while giving you better visibility to see and be seen.

Whether you want to cruise comfortably, sprint off the line quickly, or hammer the hills, the ElliptiGO Arc will get you there with a smile on your face.

Price to purchase: $1299

The 8C ElliptiGO Cycle

The 8C ElliptiGO Cycle is the most popular model. Fitness enthusiasts and cross-training athletes alike enjoy the long, smooth stride, wide gear range, and running-like motion of the 8C. And the natural “stand up” position reduces neck, back and seat pain while giving you better visibility to see and be seen.

The 8-gear range helps you climb hills, sprint the flats up to 25 mph, or cruise leisurely. Price to purchase: $2499

THE TEN-STEP FOAM ROLLING ROUTINE November 30, 2015 10:53

If you've been to our free foam rolling class, you know just how valuable foam rolling can be for your muscles. Like a toothbrush for the body, using a foam roller smooths out muscles, works out knots, and decreases injuries to help runners, walkers, joggers, and athletes of any kind maximize their potential.

Here's a simple foam rolling routine to help you make foam rolling a regular habit. The first five steps give specific foam rolling routine suggestions. The last five are essential foam rolling tips.

10-Step Foam Rolling Routine

  1. Begin by sitting on a comfortable surface such as a yoga mat with the foam roller directly behind you.
  2. Roll from the back down (mid-upper back, glutes, hamstrings, calves, ending in prone position with quads)
  3. Repeat three centered rolling motions in each zone, breathing evenly
  4. For the back, roll from mid-to-upper back with pause on spots with feedback
  5. On glutes and legs, angle slightly to the left and roll three times, then repeat with a slight angle to the right (about 45 degrees)
  6. Tip: Foam rolling can be done every day, before and after a workout
  7. Tip: Avoid joints and the bend at the hip, work the muscles around these areas
  8. Tip: Spend extra time on areas giving feedback (note: feedback is not pain, but the places where muscles announce they are in need of extra attention)
  9. Tip: To work on areas with feedback, pump the brakes, windshield wiper, and wheels go round and round (for the motion of the feet or legs)
  10. Tip: For shins, work on outer muscle only (not bone of inside shin) in a prone position and do a crunch with the roller moving along the shin muscle

FREE TRIGGER POINT CLASSES COMING UP

Our Free Trigger Point classes take place about once a month at St. Pete Running Company. Visit our EVENTS page to find out when we'll host the next foam rolling class.
