NOW AT ST. PETE RUNNING COMPANY: ELLIPTIGOS January 19, 2016 13:05 1 Comment

Ride an ElliptiGO and See What the Fuss is All About

For the first time, St. Pete Running Company is renting ElliptiGO cycles. The Arc is the newest ElliptiGO product that is lightweight, providing a nimble, responsive workout that's easy on your joints. The other model we carry is the 8C ElliptiGO cycle which gives the feeling of “running on air” from the long, smooth elliptical stride.

Both models are also for sale. The 8C model is $2499 and the Arc model is $1299. Your purchase will also apply toward Perkville points.

What is an ElliptiGO?

The ElliptiGO is an outdoor elliptical cycle that combines the best of running, cycling, and the elliptical trainer to deliver a low-impact, high performance workout outdoors.

What is the Cost to Rent an ElliptiGO at St. Pete Running Company?

Cost per person: $15 for one hour or $50 for the day. If you don't bring your own helmet, we will provide one for you.

The Pinellas Trail is directly behind our store. The employees at St. Pete Running Company will help you get started with a quick lesson in the back parking lot.

Why Should I Rent an ElliptiGO?

Are you a former runner with joint issues? An athlete who desires low-impact exercise? A person who likes cross-training?

Then you'll love testing out an ElliptiGO! The ElliptiGO is for anyone who wants low-impact, high-intensity exercise outdoors.

Can I Try Out Both Models?

Absolutely! St. Pete Running Company has two ElliptiGO cycles in store, and they are both available to rent. The Arc and the 8C cycles have subtle differences. Two people can rent each model to take a ride together (one person per cycle).

The Arc ElliptiGO Cycle

The Arc’s sleek aluminum frame, eight gears and compact stride give you a nimble, responsive workout that’s easy on your joints. And the natural “stand up” position reduces neck, back and seat pain while giving you better visibility to see and be seen.

Whether you want to cruise comfortably, sprint off the line quickly, or hammer the hills, the ElliptiGO Arc will get you there with a smile on your face.

Price to purchase: $1299

The 8C ElliptiGO Cycle

The 8C ElliptiGO Cycle is the most popular model. Fitness enthusiasts and cross-training athletes alike enjoy the long, smooth stride, wide gear range, and running-like motion of the 8C. And the natural “stand up” position reduces neck, back and seat pain while giving you better visibility to see and be seen.

The 8-gear range helps you climb hills, sprint the flats up to 25 mph, or cruise leisurely. Price to purchase: $2499

CUSTOMER FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: JOHN H. October 13, 2015 13:50 1 Comment

Meet John H.

John's Story:

At the age of 46, I was 303 pounds. Something clicked one day, and I decided that I was not going to be 300 pounds anymore. My younger brother, Michael, who has always been active, said it best to me once. “If I am going to die young,” he said, “it will not be because of something I could have prevented.” As I stood looking at myself in the mirror that day, I understood what he meant. At this point, we had both had our cancer scares. The only difference being that mine did cause weight gain. I used that fact to explain my laziness and slothfulness, and to dismiss it as an effect of the cancer. Don’t get me wrong. Anyone that has had thyroid cancer, or even hypothyroidism, will attest to the fact that it really screws you up. You feel tired all the time. You can’t focus. The last thing you want to do after working all day is to get on a bike, or go out for a run. The “will” may be there, but it might not be strong enough to get over the lethargy that sets in. But the result in doing nothing for me was a weight gain of 120 pounds.

Shortly after this decision to end this spiral, I was driving home and heard a radio show with a local doctor as a guest talking about the thyroid issue and its effect on testosterone production. Even though he was not in my insurance plan, I made an appointment and paid out of pocket for the test and consultation. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. Not only were my thyroid meds out of whack, my T level was 180. So after adjusting the Thyroid and adding T Therapy, the weight started dropping. He was also the one that initially suggested that I sign up for a triathlon. A year later, I completed Escape From Fort DeSoto in 2011. Now I've completed numerous sprint level triathlons, four 70.3 races, five half marathons, and a marathon. I know I made the right choice.

On September 2nd, 2013, I turned 50 years old. As with most people these days, I do not feel 50. I look in the mirror and do not see a 50-year-old man. I have very little gray (only in my beard). I have a full head of hair and no wrinkling. The man looking back at me cannot be 50! But, alas, he is. After changing my eating lifestyle to No Sugar and No Grains (NSNG) my energy levels shot through the roof, and I am finding my body is recovering from workouts, even long strenuous ones, much faster. You can read about and listen to the journey on my blog and podcast, Back of Pack Endurance at www.backofpack.com.

CUSTOMER FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: NIKKI B. October 13, 2015 13:40

Q & A with St. Pete Supermom Nikki B.

  1. What got you into running & what got you BACK into running? In high school I ran track. Although I performed well, I did NOT like or appreciate it. After getting married and having children, I started going to the gym more and meeting different people participating in the group classes that would talk about running. Someone invited me to run with them in a running group and I decided to give it another try as an adult. I’ve been running ever since. It does mean juggling my duties as a wife and working mom, but having the support of my husband ensures that I get it done even if it means waking up early in the morning . . ."a happy wife = a happy life!"
  1. What do you like about running?  I’m truly a social runner. I love meeting new people, talking to new people, encouraging people, and challenging myself. I’m also very careful to be sure running stays fun for me.  Each and every time I run in the neighborhood or at a race, I’m thankful and proud. I obtained by RRCA running certification for the sole purpose of encouraging others who have a desire to move (running or walking) but haven’t felt or had the support to take the first step.
  1. Describe the running community in St. Pete.  I LOVE the running community. I’ve met some great people, got great tips, ran great routes, and have so much encouragement from those who know me and from random strangers! In the past I’d never run with a group unless I knew I wouldn’t be last. I’ve quickly learned that regardless of speed and ability, you will be accepted.  It’s my personal goal to ensure others are supported when they take their first steps.  No matter what day or time I need to run, there’s always a partner or group I can run with.
  1. Favorite post-run meal? Greek yogurt with fruit for weekday runs. A good solid meal after a race (meat, veggies, bread) and adult beverage cocktail!
  1. Which Garmins do you use & what do you like about them?  I’m a HUGE fan of Garmin FR 920! It has changed my moving habits tremendously and I HIGHLY recommend it to people of all fitness levels. I never take it off.  Additionally, I just treated myself to a Garmin 620 and have learned so much about my running.  Those 2 devices are keeping me going, yet keeping me happy.

Anything else cheeky that people would like to know?  I am the scariest person you can meet, but love challenges that test my physical ability! I’m not talking about riding roller coasters though. I have some major fitness goals that would amaze people but remember my name because you WILL see it when I accomplish the goals!
